Flash is software produced by Macromedia which has been accepted by the world as a web authoring tool because of its great flexibility of handling multimedia and logical programming. Some 200 million computers are declared to have the plug-in attached to their browsers so that they can view these files on the Internet (badly designed files are characterised by "please wait while loading").
We are so impressed with this software that we are promoting its use in the whole field of education: as a means of exploring creativity and as software to be used by learners from six year olds upwards.
A big boost has been given to the use of Flash in Primary Schools by Macromedia offering their software and licences for a whole class for only £299.
Our work divides into three areas
Another emphasis is where some excitement can be generated by the way a subject is introduced. http://www.tygh.co.uk/tan/tan.htm
In one school I am supporting teachers in classes of 30 from years 3 to 6 (7-11 year olds). These classes do a wide variety of projects that work in most of the areas of the curriculum. We also run a computer club for years 3 to 6 to enable pupils to explore their creativity in the use of a wide range of techniques possible with the use of Flash.
In another secondary school with an extensive involvement in ICT, support is being given to years 7 and 8.
Examples of the materials used in these lessons and the results achieved by the pupils can be seen at http://www.tygh.co.uk/resources/ and http://www.tygh.co.uk/students/ , with the latest work at http://www.tygh.co.uk/new.html
who wish to use Flash both in the preparation of teaching materials and actual teaching of pupils in the classroom and computer club. This is being done through a special discussion list and general communications with the uk.education.schools-it newsgroup. It is moving on to a new phase where on-line teaching is being attempted. When we are more familiar with this technology, it will be offered to teachers as support in the class room.
I have also been asked to run courses in the use of Flash in the classroom at numerous locations across England
No financial assistance is being received for any of this work at present, though excellent facilities are being provided by Direct Connection for this free web site and Macromedia are providing their products free for use in this project.
