Three Witches
This project greatly impressed our OFSTED inspector for its open ended nature which encouraged a wide range of creativity amongst a mixed ability Year 7 class.
It would be equally suitable for a group of gifted and talented children in years 6 to 9.
In this project, the students designed a witch using Flash software together with a background and a foreground. They then sent their designs as email attachments to their classmates. They added two further witches (received by email) . Lastly they recorded a multiple sound track which in some cases they also sent to classmates as email attachments.
The project was challenging and by using a template, each student rose to their own potential. Thus with a mixed ability class, gifted students were enabled to be very creative, whilst others (who found conventional subjects a struggle) explored strengths which had not been recognised previously. None of them failed to producing something they were pleased with.
The motivation throughout the six one-hour lesson project was very high, with some students wanting to continue working with Flash at home and took a 90 day trial of the Flash software away with them.
